Literacy For a story I'm writing
In the beginning, the were two young lovestruck wolves. Both felt like they were on top of the world, and they had already had dreams of ruling a strong pack in a large territory with healthy cubs. The fae, Hollow, was five months pregnant when the plague struck. Dark Snake Syndrome, they called it.
"I'm so excited, Hollow! Pups! Of our own!" Pyro cried with delight for the millionth time as his eyes glazed over his mate. She nodded, her black pelt shimmering. Orange wisps coated her onyx fur, and so she was named Hollow. Pyro was almost identical, except that instead of orange wisps, he had black fire markings running up his legs, dipped in his tail, and down his head, stretching to the tips of his ears. And so he was named Pyro.
Hollow nodded, before her eyes suddenly flew wide and her fangs clenched. Even then, Pyro marveled at how beautiful she was.
"Are they kicking again?" Pyro asked with a slight tone of worry. The pups occasionally kicked around restlessly, and both were used to it.
Hollow started shaking violently as she shook her head, sweat raining down her beautiful body, her teeth clenched harder than ever and her orange eyes glazed with pain.
Pyro's worry grew like a flame that enveloped a branch. He was speechless as he saw Hollow start to cough up blood, staining her fur. "Pyro!" She called once, and then her head flopped down to the ground, lifeless.
"Hollow? Hollow! HOLLOW!" Pyro called out in desperation. He reached out a shaking pad toward her face, her eyes rolled back and white- then he stopped. There was an odd marking running around her body, it ended at her eyes, it looked like a-
"Snake?" Pyro whispered, shaking. "No! NO!" He yelled, and turned away from his beautiful partner, now dead, and ran off, where to, only the bright silver full moon could tell.
